Food: More than a meal
In this exhibition, you will learn more about food today, in the future, and from a historical perspective, in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway.
Welcome, the food is served!
This exhibition explores the idea that food is not just food. Food is identity and culture, politics, attitudes, climate, and the environment. Food is the past, present, and future. Everyone needs food. We grow, store, transport, eat, throw away, or recycle it. The exhibition takes a historical approach to show possible pathways into the future.
Food is a complex issue — what foods are beneficial for both the body and the planet? Food is essential for survival, and it can be central to a region's economy. Food is about climate and the environment. Consumption, transportation, and recycling of food have drastically changed over time, affecting our lifestyle and culture.
The exhibition focuses on four main themes: growing, transportation and storage, eating, and reusing and recycling food. Each theme is approached from both a historical and contemporary perspective. Perhaps this can help us think and act in new and more sustainable ways?

The exhibition is designed for the entire family, featuring interactive elements and references that are engaging for visitors of all ages, including the youngest. The exhibition aims to inspire action and raise awareness about various aspects of the food we eat.
The historical dimension helps put our current consumption and production into perspective. The exhibition shows how Nordic artists address food as a theme and how Nordic companies are innovatively working to find new ways to grow food and recycle food waste. Contributing to achieving the UN's Sustainable Development Goals is a key premise of the exhibition.
The exhibition is created by the Regionmuseum Skåne in collaboration with Den Gamle By, Aarhus, Denmark, and Maihaugen, Lillehammer, with funding from Nordisk Kulturkontakt and the Nordic Culture Fund.
