Object of the month: Educational equipment
Educational equipment
On display this month is educational equipment used in temperance work.
The equipment consists of wooden plates with glass tubes containing nutritional values for fish, milk, meat, bread, port wine and liquor. From similar equipment we learn that the plate for beer is missing.
The equipment is stamped Landsrådet for edruelighetsundervisning, a national council working for temperance. This council was active from is foundation in 1902 until it became a part of the Directorate for sobriety in 1969. Educational equipment of this type was distributed all over Norway, often to schools. We know little about the history of this particular equipment before it became a part of the museum collection sometime before 1990. However, it is likely that it has been in use at a local school.
