Object of the month: Globe
This globe was given to Elvebakken Primary school in Alta, as a gift from the Red Cross Youths of America. After the Second World War, there was a great need for many things, such as fishing and farming equipment, school equipment, building materials, food, industrial machines and so on. In 1947, the United States Secretary of State, George C. Marshall, said in a speech that the US might be able to provide economical help to Europe. As a prerequisite, he demanded that the countries of Europe made a joint plan for economic revival. This aid program was named The Marshall Plan. Norway received 450 million dollars in the form of presents and loans over a course of four years. Trough this program, Alta received among other things equipment for schools, fishing and farming.
